Sedley's
interest in music began at an early age, listening to
artists such as the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and the
Ventures.
After
watching him run around the house with a broom stick in
his hands, and standing in front of the mirror playing
air guitar, his parents finally bought him an electric
guitar. He had no amplifier, so his dad rigged his home
made hi fi sound system so he could play through it.
After taking several lessons, Sedley decided the guitar
was too difficult to learn how to play. So he stopped
the lessons and sold his guitar.
A few years
later his interest was again sparked after listening to
Deep Purple's Highway Star. So he decided to give it
another try. He bought a used guitar from a friend and
started teaching himself.
By his
senior year in high school, Sedley was in a band called
Night Shift. The band was very popular with the high
school students and was known through out the area as
they played many parties, dances, and local events.
Including the annual battles of the bands which they
played and won.
Since then
Sedley has played for a number of different bands
including Four Wheel Drive, First Class, Aftershox,
Trainwreck, and Red Ball Jets.
In the
early 80's Sedley met up with Keyboardist, Vocalist,
Tommy Smyth. Tommy asked Sedley
to sit in on a concert which showcased some of Tommy's
original music. The two struck up a friendship which has
lasted now over 25 years.
When
Tommy's cover band First class lost their guitar player,
Tommy called Sedley to audition. Sedley became a part of
the band and the two have been playing together ever
since. In fact when Richard Dell
first contacted Sedley, (Richard and Sedley met through
Mark, their hairdresser) Sedley stated he would only
consider joining the band if Tommy came with him. Betty
wanted to audition Sedley first by himself, but Sedley
brought Tommy along anyway. Betty saw right away that
there was chemistry there and the rest is history. |
