"Jonny B"
always had an interest in music. Starting in grade
school orchestra with the Violin, he taught himself
the guitar at age 15. From the start his interests
in the guitar spread to classical; to rock; to
blues; to jazz; to songwriting. Playing his first
gig in an small bar in Occoquan, Va at 19, he
continued to dabble in the solo acoustic scene in
the Washington, DC area. Secretly, he played his
electric guitar to the sounds of Pink Floyd, BB King
and Led Zepplin. With some time in the Mary
Washington College Jazz band and playing the local
music scene in the greater DC area, he spent time
learning from local musicians. In 2001 he ventured
into DC101 FM for a try out for Limp Bizkit. Though
turned down by the listeners as a potential for the
“acclaimed band,” the name “Jonny B” stuck; as his
improvisational abilities were praised by East Coast
radio jock Elliot, of Elliot in the Morning. From
there it was playing with local DC bands, and
recording his debut album
Pencil Sketches:
which has had modest sales from all over the
country, and received airplay on East and West Coast
radio stations, and is available on iTunes as well
other on-line stores. (www.JonnyBmusic.com)
In 2004 Jonny
started teaching guitar to the future rock stars of
Potomac, and built up a modest following while still
playing acoustic guitar in coffeehouses, restaurants
and the sandwich shop chain “Potbelly’s”. In 2007,
Jonny B packed up his guitars, amplifiers and dog
(Charlie B) to move to Los Angeles, CA. Within
moments, and like tripping over empty beer cans, he
found Rock Bottom Betty, and knew his fate in Los
Angeles was forever sealed. He is very pleased with
the sick irony of landing himself in a group of not
only great guys, but great musicians too!”
