Richard, co-founder of Rock Bottom Betty, was involved in music since birth -
his father was a well-known country musician (Slim Leroy and the Cactus Riders),
many years back. Both he and his
brother were introduced to music by their mother, but since the family already
had a guitarist, they were "directed" to other instruments. Richard
began studying piano, and his brother studied the accordion.
By his early teen's, Richard (and brother
Wayne), both showed an interest in
their father's instrument of choice and became proficient on the Guitar. Despite
their mother's pleading, they formed a rock band, "The Kirks", and began making music for the masses.
For eight years (from the 60's to the 70's), this band performed all around the
LA area.
The Dell brothers worked their way through college at San Luis Obispo in a
group called "Dell, Ryan & Dell", playing a variety of gigs and
music.
Richard broke out on a solo career while pursuing his "real" career
(yeah - sure!). During this time, he honed his musicianship waiting for that
"big break".
By some cruel twist of fate, Richard met
Dennis Neder
and formed an immediate friendship. When they learned of the other's proclivity
for music - "The Kiwanbees" we're formed. This band took on
many shapes, but eventually became today's Rock Bottom Betty.
